Asian House of Literature
Welcome to Sri Lanka’s First International Writing Residency Program
Centrally located in Gampaha, a small town 25 miles from Colombo, Sri Lanka’s commercial center, and 10 miles from Colombo International Airport (CMB), The Asian House of Literature provides writers in residence with a distinctive atmosphere. The Asian House of Literature is a six-bedroom residence equipped with a library, four writing studios, and additional amenities. An indoor event hall for 75 attendees and an outdoor space for 100 are included in the facility. At a time 3 authors can be hosted.
The Asian House of Literature’s Asian International Residency Program (AIRP), administered by The Asian Group of Literature, comprises five residency programs:
Write Sri Lanka (WSL)
WSL aims at supporting the foreign writers undertaking writing projects related to Sri Lanka. The applicant must submit a comprehensive proposal outlining the anticipated work to The Asian Literary Agency eight months prior to their intended arrival. Funding for the Residency Program may be complete, partial, or symbolic, contingent upon the evaluation committee’s decision.
Creative Tourism Sri Lanka (CTS)
The CTS program welcomes writers and journalists to Sri Lanka, enabling them to pursue writing projects alongside a cultural tourism experience. The Asian House only admits writers and journalists under this program when no other program’s participants are in residence.
Young Writers’ Exchange (YWX)
The Asian Group of Literature, in collaboration with its partner countries and institutions, implements the YWX program. This program enables The Asian House of Literature to host three early-career international writers, whose participation is fully or partially subsidised by collaborating organisations.
Translators In Residence (TIR)
This particular offer is tailored for foreign translators engaged in the translation of works by Sri Lankan authors. TIR operates within the framework of The Asian Literary Agency’s GLIT2025 (Global Literature in Translation) program.
The Asia Society of Literature Residency Program (ASLRP)
Membership in The Asian Society of Literature provides eligibility for ASLRP.
